I was reading some traveling blogs, and one of them had a list of books they recommended. That is how I discovered Gorge by Kara Richardson Whitely’s book. I must admit the name immediately intrigued me, and I wanted to read about her journey up Kilimanjaro at 300 pounds.

Gorge, my journey up Kilimanjaro at 300 pounds
Gorge, my journey up Kilimanjaro at 300 pounds, is an honest rendition of her journey to deciding to go up Kilimanjaro for the third time. In the book, she shares quite a bit of her life; from her childhood memories up to the present day.
What I loved about the book is how real she was. She shares what it is like to be an overweight person and why she is overweight in the first place. She is extremely honest about being overweight and how it affects her daily life. I found this honesty captivating because so many people are overweight and yet no one knows how they feel on the inside. I think she was quite brave to be so open and honest about it.
She describes getting ready for the Kilimanjaro trip and the emotional ups and downs she experienced in the process. She also describes how her weight affects this journey of hers. She made me laugh at times, and she also made me cry at times. One could feel her emotions through her writing, which was a unique experience to have while reading a book.
I enjoyed reading this book. In fact, I could not put it down; I wanted to know what would be next and how it would end.
I never thought of going up Mount Kilimanjaro, but after reading Gorge! it is definitely on my bucket list!
I think she is an excellent author that keeps her readers hooked right from the start. I hope to read more from her soon!
